The Value of Mental Health

May is Mental Health Awareness Month. According to the 2004 US Census, almost 60 million Americans suffer from a diagnosed mental disorder. Unfortunately, due to lack of understanding and societal pressures, many individuals feel ashamed to seek help. They suffer in prolonged silence from invisible, yet debilitating, diseases.

I am a strong advocate for ending social stigma against mental illness. Thus, I painted this piece in honor of mental health awareness. I designed a mock New York Times magazine cover which features the famous “T” logo.
